Corten steel memorial column for the Selsaeten field grave in Wommelgem
In Wommelgem, a corten steel memorial column commemorates the Selsaeten field grave. During the Second World War, twelve soldiers of the 2nd Canadian Division and one British soldier were temporarily buried here, after the heavy fighting around the Albert Canal in September 1944.
For the municipality of Wommelgem, we made the column that gives this story a permanent place.
Lettering cut from steel
The word "Gedenkplaat" (memorial plaque) is cut out of the column, so light shines through and the text can be read from a distance. On the front, the column holds an information panel with the history of the site, an archive photo and a QR code for those who want to know more.
