Organic planters on a roof terrace: how Haro Tuinaannemingen did it
A green roof terrace in the middle of the rooftops: that was the goal of this project by Haro Tuinaannemingen. Curved, organic corten steel planters line the parapet, completed with round planters for the trees.
The result is a terrace that feels like a garden, with soft shapes that break the straight lines of the building.

Up by crane
Getting planters and trees onto a roof takes preparation. The planters were lifted onto the roof one by one with a crane and then set in place. The trees went up by crane too, with the root ball in one piece.

Organic shapes and round planters
The curved planters follow the edge of the terrace and leave room for a continuous strip of planting. The round planters give the trees enough root space and add accents between the low planting. Over time the corten steel develops a warm rust patina that suits the natural look of the terrace.

What to consider with planters on a roof
Have the load-bearing capacity of the roof checked beforehand, especially with large planters, moist soil and trees. Provide good drainage and think about watering: this terrace has a drip irrigation system. With trees at height, wind also matters. An experienced landscaper like Haro brings all of this together.
