Planters with a wooden seating edge for Populierenhof care home
In the courtyard of Populierenhof care home in Sint-Niklaas, oval corten steel planters have been finished with a seating edge in solid hardwood. A paved courtyard became a green place where residents and visitors like to sit down.
The planters follow the lines of the square and combine planting, trees and seating in one element.
Greenery and a place to sit
In a care setting, an outdoor space only really adds value when people actually use it. That is why the planters were given a wide wooden seating edge at a comfortable height. Residents can rest during a walk, and visitors have a place to sit outside together.
Corten steel and hardwood together
The corten steel develops a warm patina that matches the brick of the building and the green of the planting. The hardwood adds warmth and comfort: it feels pleasant, even on a chilly day. A tree as the centrepiece
In front of the building, a large planter with a tree adds structure and shade to the square. Bottomless planters give trees real soil, so roots have room to grow and rainwater can soak into the ground.
