Corten steel

Corten steel is the most widely used material in the Geroba range. Outdoors, this weathering steel forms a natural layer of rust that gives it its characteristic warm, orange-brown colour.

What is Corten steel?

Corten steel is steel that develops a protective layer of rust when exposed to rain, air and outdoor conditions. That layer protects the steel underneath against further corrosion, which means the material does not need to be painted or treated. The colour appears gradually: on delivery a product is often still steel grey or partly rusted, and once exposed to the open air it develops its final rust-brown tone step by step. This gives every piece a unique, natural appearance.

What does Geroba use Corten steel for?

Corten steel is our main material. You will find it in the Artesa and Ronda planters, in letterboxes such as Carta and Pakun, in tree rings, retaining walls and lawn edging, and in ponds and firewood storage. Corten steel elements combine well with one another to form a coherent whole in the garden.

Maintenance and points of attention

Corten steel needs hardly any maintenance. Do unpack a new product soon after delivery, so no moisture stays trapped between the packaging and the material: that can cause irregular staining. During the rusting process, rust water may temporarily drip off. So place Corten steel products carefully on light-coloured tiles or natural stone and make sure there is sufficient drainage.
